In fiber optic cable communication, if we encounter fiber interruption, we first consider the failure of the optical cable and take certain positioning measures for it, then check the external and then to the transmission. The following are some methods to improve the accuracy of fault location of optical cable lines:
First set the parameters of OTDR. When using the OTDR test, the instrument parameter must be set first, the most important is to set the refractive index and test wavelength of the test fiber. Only by accurately setting the basic parameters of the test instrument can conditions be created for accurate testing. Use the zoom function of the meter. Using the zoom function of OTDR can accurately position the cursor on the corresponding inflection point, and use the zoom function key to zoom the graph to 25 meters/div so that you can get more accurate test results with a resolution of less than 1 meter. Adjust the accurate test range file. For different test range files, the distance resolution of the OTDR test is different. When measuring fiber obstacles, the closest test range file that is greater than the measured distance should be selected so that the instrument’s own accuracy can be used to make the measurement.
Secondly, during the maintenance and management process, accurate and complete original documents should be established. These accurately completed optical cable line files are the basic basis for fault measurement and location. Therefore, carelessness should not be neglected in the maintenance management process, and real, credible, and complete line information should be established.
When monitoring the connection of the optical cable, record the cumulative length of the fiber from the test end to the position of each splice point and the total attenuation value of the optical fiber of the relay section. At the same time, register the test instrument model and the set value of the refractive index during the test. Accurately record the remaining of various optical cables. Record the length of the fiber reel in each joint pit, special section, S-shaped laying, entrance room, etc. and the length of the fiber reel in the joint box, terminal box, ODF rack, etc. in order to deduct it when converting the fault point routing length.
In addition, the measurement conditions should be kept consistent during the measurement process. Obstacle testing should try to ensure the consistency of the test instrument model, operation method and instrument parameter settings, etc. so that the test results are comparable. Therefore, each test instrument model and test parameter settings must be recorded in detail for future use.
